My 9-year-old son’s barber whispered, “check behind his ear.” — 20 minutes later, two police cars were outside my house.
My nine-year-old son, Ethan, had been going to the same barbershop for almost two years.
So when our usual barber was busy, I didn’t think twice about letting the new guy cut his hair.

His name was Marcus.
Everything seemed normal.
Until he trimmed the hair behind Ethan’s left ear.
Marcus suddenly stopped.
He stared at the skin for several seconds.
Then he looked at me through the mirror.
His expression had completely changed.
When the haircut was finished, Ethan ran outside to look at the candy machine.
Marcus leaned toward me and whispered:
“Check behind his ear.”
“What?”
But another customer was already approaching.
Marcus simply shook his head.
“At home. Look carefully.”
Ten minutes later, we were back at the house.
I moved Ethan’s hair aside.
At first, I saw nothing except a tiny reddish mark.
Then I rubbed it gently.
Something hard was underneath.
A tiny black disc, barely larger than a grain of rice, was stuck to his skin beneath a flesh-colored patch.
My stomach dropped.
“Ethan, who put this here?”
His face changed.
“I don’t know.”
Then he hesitated.
“Maybe the man from school.”
“What man?”
“The one who said he knew Dad.”
My husband had been dead for three years.
I immediately called the police.
The dispatcher told me not to remove the object.
Twenty minutes later, two police cars pulled up outside.
An officer examined Ethan’s ear, then asked:
“Has anyone been inside your home recently?”
“Only family.”
He looked toward our front door.
“Then nobody touches anything.”
Another officer walked outside to his cruiser.
Seconds later, he came running back.
Then Ethan grabbed my hand.
“Mom…”
